Rhianna epitomizes what fashion should always be about: Freedom, Personal Expression, and WTF you want it to be. With her no rules and no prisoners taken attitude, RiRi’s fashion sense has always been a lighthouse for those that love nothing more than experimenting with fashion. All her feelings towards fashion can be clearly appreciated through her several, and memorable, fashion campaigns and collaborations whether she is staring in them or just providing her keen eye for design. With no further ado, below is what we think are her top 4 fashion campaigns/design collaborations:
For Christian Dior
RiRi stared in the brand’s Secret Garden video campaign from 2015. The campaign was shot by Steven Klein in the castle of Versailles, in beautiful France. Unsurprisingly, bad girl RiRi made history by being the first ever black woman to star in a Christian Dior ad. Klein himself described the reasoning behind choosing her as the face of the 4th video in the Secret Garden series by saying "Rihanna's mystery and intrigue combined with her razor-sharp looks and sensibility, are the essential, perfect elements to create the stage for Secret Garden".
In 2013 Rihanna was chosen by Olivier Rousteing to front the brand’s spring 2014 ad campaign. Shot by renowned photographers Inez & Vinoodh in NYC, the campaign was actually styled by the singer’s personal wardrobe stylist, Mel Ottemberg, which gave the outfits she can be seen sporting in the pictures a very personal feel. Rousteing, a long-time friend of RiRi, spoke about her as his muse for the ad "In front of the camera, she makes you feel like she is the only girl in the world" he said, "When the woman that inspires you wears your creations, your vision feels complete".
For Manolo Blahnik
Set to debut on May 5th in the Hong Kong, London, and New York stores exclusively, the capsule collection called Denim Desserts is the brain child of Rihanna and Kristina Blahnik – the brand’s current CEO. Containing 6 different designs, all obviously centered on denim, the collection will vary in price from USD$895 to USD$3,995. Blahnik himself was quoted saying that the collaboration "[…]is incredibly exciting, and I am absolutely thrilled with the results - working with Rihanna has been amazing and her drive, passion, creativity and style has been reflected in the designs, with fabulous results,". The German sneaker house made a wise choice when picking Rihanna as the designer for their new designer collab. The Fenty Puma by Rihanna collection is scheduled to hit stores on September 2016, and is said to be gender neutral and made for all. The collection is heavy on Japanese inspired streetwear, and is almost exclusively in black and white, and with what Rihanna herself calls a “gothic undertone”. This collaboration is Rihanna encapsulated; she described the process herself during one of the backstage interviews that took place after the collection’s fashion week debut. "I think design is a part of being creative," she told The Associated Press. "I enjoy creating and expressing the crazy things going on in my mind through something that people can see and that is tangible. That is the best part, being able to express yourself”.
